The most significant technical change in Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 may be the arrival of integrated mod support on consoles.

PC users have long had access to community-created modifications. CD Projekt RED is now introducing an official in-game interface that allows selected mods to reach several hardware platforms.

mod.io provides cross-platform access

The new modding system is powered by mod.io and allows players to discover and install supported community content directly from the game's menu.

CD Projekt RED lists PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 as supported platforms.

Support does not imply identical launch dates. The update reaches its initial platforms on October 22, with Nintendo Switch 2 and the Mac App Store release following in the days afterward.

The studio describes this as an initial phase, with more mods becoming available over time.

The system should not be interpreted as unrestricted compatibility with the entire existing PC mod library.

Modded saves affect console achievements

The Load Game interface now marks save files that use modifications.

CD Projekt RED confirms that achievements and trophies cannot be earned on consoles while playing from a modded save.

This is an important limitation for players attempting to complete achievement lists.

The patch notes do not disclose the complete technical validation process for supported mods, nor the precise permissions available to every modification category.

Claims about scripting access, software isolation or unrestricted engine-level changes would therefore be premature.

DLSS 4.5 introduces additional rendering options

The update adds support for DLSS 4.5, including up to 6X Multi Frame Generation, Dynamic Multi Frame Generation and a second-generation Transformer model.

Image reconstruction and frame generation serve different purposes. Reconstruction produces a final image using information from a different rendering resolution, while frame generation creates additional intermediate frames on compatible hardware.

The 6X designation should not be presented as a universal sixfold increase in native rendering performance.

Actual results depend on hardware compatibility, the chosen mode, baseline framerate and the limitations of the technologies involved.

The patch notes do not include independent performance benchmarks establishing gains for every supported GPU.

AMD FSR options have changed

CD Projekt RED has revised the available AMD FSR settings.

FSR 3 upscaling is no longer included, while FSR 2.1, FSR 4 and FSR 3.1 Frame Generation remain available.

That distinction matters. The removal of an upscaling option does not mean that all AMD frame-generation functionality has disappeared.

An additional toggle controls FSR Anti-Lag 2.

Its practical effect on input latency must be evaluated on compatible systems rather than assumed to be identical across hardware configurations.

Ray tracing and PS5 Pro receive optimizations

CD Projekt RED confirms performance optimizations affecting ray tracing and PlayStation 5 Pro.

The release notes do not specify exact framerate improvements or new resolution targets for each PS5 Pro graphics mode.

Meaningful evaluation will therefore require testing comparable scenes under controlled conditions.

Frame pacing, image stability and dynamic resolution behavior may be just as relevant as average framerate.

HDR and console FOV controls improve flexibility

The update includes HDR rendering changes intended to improve color accuracy, brightness and contrast on compatible displays.

It also fixes a PS5 issue in which HDR settings did not produce the intended results.

A field-of-view slider has been added to consoles, allowing players to adjust the portion of the environment visible on screen.

Changing FOV can influence perspective and rendering workload. The patch notes do not specify complete platform-by-platform limits.

Glasses-free 3D and MetalFX additions

Cyberpunk 2077 now supports glasses-free 3D effects on compatible Samsung Odyssey 3D monitors.

A Motion Comfort setting allows players to balance perceived depth against visual comfort.

The feature requires supported hardware and should not be mistaken for universal stereoscopic support on ordinary displays.

On Mac, the update adds MetalFX Frame Interpolation, providing another platform-specific rendering feature.

Fixes extend beyond graphical performance

Among the listed fixes is a Nintendo Switch 2 issue that could incorrectly report insufficient storage space while saving.

The update also addresses selected controller behavior, third-person camera settings, film grain and a quest progression problem.

Save files are grouped by playthrough, while apartment and vehicle storage menus receive additional item filters.

These changes improve everyday usability without necessarily affecting raw rendering performance.

Compatibility is confirmed; performance gains need testing

Update 2.5 combines major platform features with new gameplay content and quality-of-life improvements.

The most notable technical developments are integrated console modding and expanded image-processing options.

The initial release is scheduled for October 22, with Switch 2 and Mac App Store versions arriving later.

The official notes establish the feature list and supported platforms. They do not provide a complete set of measured results demonstrating image-quality improvements, reduced latency or stable mod behavior under every configuration.

Those claims will require direct testing on the released versions rather than extrapolation from the technologies' names.
