The headline specification of the iQOO Neo12 is its battery. At 9,000mAh, the cell offers considerably more capacity than conventional smartphone batteries, yet the phone remains under 9mm thick.

That achievement comes alongside several other ambitious features: a 185Hz display, an actively cooled Snapdragon processor and a secondary graphics chip.

Together, they establish a clear product identity. The Neo12 prioritizes gaming performance and endurance over minimum weight or camera-system versatility.

Battery capacity is the central everyday advantage

The Neo12 uses fifth-generation silicon-anode battery technology, with a claimed capacity of 9,000mAh and support for 100W wired charging.

The device measures approximately 163.4mm tall and 75.9mm wide. Thickness ranges from 8.5mm to 8.67mm depending on the color variant.

Direct power-supply functionality is intended to reduce some battery-related heat during demanding activities while connected to a charger.

Actual endurance remains dependent on usage. A game running at high brightness and maximum refresh rate will consume power differently from reading, messaging or video playback.

The battery is not weightless, either. The device weighs between 225g and 229g, making it noticeably heavier than many phones designed for comfortable one-handed use.

Active cooling creates new advantages and maintenance questions

The phone includes a 59-blade fan supported by a vapor chamber and additional heat-transfer structures.

The aim is to remove heat quickly enough to maintain performance over longer periods of processor-intensive activity.

However, active cooling also introduces mechanical components, potential fan noise and questions about long-term reliability.

iQOO advertises IP68 and IP69 resistance for the phone and specific protection measures for the cooling assembly. These ratings should not be interpreted as permission for unrestricted exposure to water or dust.

Sustained testing will be needed to establish whether the improved cooling offsets the additional power consumption and acoustic impact.

A 185Hz display has benefits that depend on software

The 6.83-inch OLED panel offers a 3200 × 1440 resolution and a maximum 185Hz refresh rate.

iQOO also claims up to 2,200 nits of full-screen peak brightness under specified conditions, alongside display features intended to reduce glare and support comfortable viewing.

The high refresh rate is most relevant in compatible games. Everyday applications and conventional video content may not take advantage of the full 185Hz capability.

The dedicated Q3 chip supports frame interpolation and upscaling, but those functions must be distinguished from native rendering.

A frame generated by interpolation can improve perceived smoothness without increasing the underlying game's simulation rate.

Camera hardware receives less emphasis

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is paired with LPDDR5X Ultra memory and UFS 4.1 storage. Configurations range from 12GB RAM with 256GB storage to 16GB RAM with 1TB.

There is no microSD storage expansion.

The rear camera setup combines a 50MP Sony main sensor with optical image stabilization and an 8MP ultrawide camera. A 16MP front-facing camera handles selfies and video calls.

This is a comparatively restrained camera configuration for a device emphasizing flagship computing hardware.

The product's additional cost and engineering effort appear concentrated on processing power, sustained cooling, screen performance and battery capacity.

Chinese promotional pricing needs careful interpretation

Official Chinese pricing starts at CNY 4,399 for the 12GB and 256GB model and reaches CNY 6,499 for the 16GB and 1TB version.

The widely reported CNY 3,149 starting figure applies only after stacking launch discounts, limited platform promotions and government subsidies available in China.

That number is not the standard retail price and cannot reliably predict an international price.

The Neo12 went on sale in China on October 28. No European launch date or official European price has been confirmed.

Potential import buyers would also need to examine network compatibility, software availability, charging support and warranty coverage.

An unusual phone with a specific target audience

The iQOO Neo12 is designed for users who value long gaming sessions, powerful hardware and sustained performance more than a lightweight design.

Its large battery and active cooling provide a plausible technical foundation for that goal, but real-world results remain to be established.

The decisive measurements will be sustained gaming frame rates, battery life, operating temperatures, fan noise and charging behavior.

Until those results are available, the Neo12 is best understood as an ambitious hardware announcement and a product already on sale in China, rather than a proven leader in sustained smartphone gaming performance.
