OpenAI is offering research labs a year of free seats to bring GPT-Rosalind into scientific work
OpenAI wants more academic laboratories to use its specialized biology model, and it is removing one of the initial obstacles: subscription costs. The Rosalind Academic Plan, announced October 15, 2026, gives eligible US university labs a route to sponsored ChatGPT seats and approved access to GPT-Rosalind. The offer is significant, but it comes with institutional restrictions and unresolved questions about long-term dependence on commercial AI tools.

ChatGPT Mobile Briefly Lost Work Mode and the Model Picker
OpenAI’s latest service problem showed up in the interface rather than in the models themselves. On September 23, some ChatGPT mobile users could no longer see Work Mode or the model picker. OpenAI identified the issue and applied a mitigation seven minutes after its first public update.
